There is a reason for the saying ‘breed like rabbits’. They will start breeding at 3 months of age and don’t stop!

Rabbits are a social species and should be kept in pairs or groups so neutering is necessary to stop breeding and also to reduce aggression (both males and females).

  • Female rabbits are also known as Does. Neutering a female rabbit is called spaying. We are in fact removing both ovaries and the uterus (womb). This is called an ovariohysterectomy in humans. Please note that rabbits do not undergo a menopause so there is no need to worry about this.

    What are the benefits?

    • No unwanted pregnancies.

    • No uterine cancer (this affects 60-80% of all female rabbits – the only prevention is neutering).

    • Significantly reduces aggression.

  • Male rabbits are also known has bucks, neutering is also called castration. Both testicles are removed.

    • Stops breeding.

    • Reduces aggression.

    • Can mix with other rabbits.

    • Stops spraying of urine to mark territory.
