Female Cat Neutering Advice.

Neutering of female cats.

Queens – and don’t they know it! This is called spaying. We are in fact removing both ovaries and the uterus (womb). This is called an ovariohysterectomy in humans. Please note that cats do not undergo a menopause, so there is no need to worry about this.

    • No unwanted pregnancy. If your female cat is unneutered and goes out it WILL get pregnant.

    • Prevents FIV and reduces the risk of FeLV (these are very nasty viral diseases similar to human AIDs). These are both spread by sexual activity.

    • Prevents pyometra (pyometra literally means pus in the womb, it is life threatening and requires urgent major, and expensive, surgery). Pyometra is rare in cats simply because the vast majority are neutered at an early age.

    • Reduces the risk of breast cancer. Again breast cancer is rare in cats simply because the vast majority are neutered at an early age.

    • Neutered animals put weight on more easily. This is a fairly minor problem in cats compared to dogs.

  • We perform our spays from Monday to Friday at our Preston Farm Hospital and our Hartburn and Nunthorpe branches.

To book, please call the surgery on 01642 604555 or your usual surgery number.

Our team will book you an appointment for a pre-op  check for your dog, where you will have the opportunity to discuss the options further.
